December 2003

This is Vetta and Paul's story about our trip to Mexico to have Tubal Reversal done:

Our flight wasn't supposed to leave until 9:55am on December 20th 2003, so we left home at 6:00am that morning, cause we were afraid we were not going to get there in time, we felt this was to good to be true for us. It cost us $663.00 for two round trip tickets, that was a real good price. We got to the Louisville, KY Airport two hours early, so after we checked threw I told Paul I was going to get Dr Levi a coffee cup with Kentucky on it, so he can have something from my state. I got my camcorder out and tape some of the planes coming in and leaving, I was scared, never been on a plane before.

We finally got on the plane to Ohio, we had to change planes again in Ohio, to Houston, TX., then to McAllen, TX. Every time we went up or came down I grabbed Paul's hand and closed my eyes. I also got sick on the plane cause didn't have anything to eat since the night before at midnight.

We got to McAllen, TX Airport it was at 3:30pm, so we went and rented a car. It cost $30.00 to rent the car and $40.00 for Mexican insurance. Paul said you are driving, so I did.

I thought I could drive there with no problems, was I wrong! I went the wrong way, couldn't figure out the speed limit. Here we go 65, there its only 10 to 20 (those are in KM). Once I realized I was lost, I had to get over in the other lane because it was a one way street. I had to go over 3 rolls to get over to make a u-turn, which I was not supposed to have made, but I saw others doing it, so I did like they were doing! This one group of Mexican men in a truck, smiled at me and shook their head, I know I could have got in trouble with the law, but I thought if they are going to get me, then they have to get them too.

Got lost again, so I stopped where there was a policeman and he took me straight to the hospital. It was 5:45pm, They called Dr. Levi, and he told me to go ahead and let them get me in a bed and start my IV and they will do my surgery in the morning. I told him I had not eaten anything since last night at midnight, and got sick on the plane and got a headache, could he please go ahead and do it now, he told me go ahead and get IV started and he will see if they could. At 6:00pm that night, he came in and told me they were going to do it then. They started my IV, and it hurts, she had trouble but would not take it out and try again she just kept pushing and moving it up and down. They finally got it, Dr. Levi comes in and puts something in my IV, and said that will help me from being sick at my stomach, then the nurse came back in and put a cap on my head and something on my feet, then wheeled me in the room where Paul and the doctors were, and Dr Levi told me to get up on the table, so I looked up over the door and saw the cross with Jesus, and yes it is pretty.

I laid down on the table and they put me in a fetal position. I thought what they had put in my IV in the room was all they were going to give me, and I was still awake. I looked up at Dr. Levi and told him I wanted to be asleep and he said 'that's what this is now that I'm getting ready to put in your IV'. That's the last thing I remember until I woke up in my room. Paul told me during my surgery I woke up and told the doctor I felt that, and every time I woke up they would shoot more medicine through my IV. They said I woke up three times and Paul said, I would go back out. I was not in pain, but could not feel from my waist down and let me tell you that was real weird. Paul said I was going in and out to sleep, then that later at night, the nurse brought me some hot tea and jello.

After the surgery Dr. Levi and Paul went out to eat and showed Paul his home and Dr. Perez's house. Paul said they were nice. Dr. Levi also showed Paul where to find him some real snakeskin boots. When they got back I was finally waking up, Dr. Levi came in my room and asked me if I'm in pain or anything, told him I was fine, and asked him where Paul was, he told me he was showing off his new snakeskin boots.

I don't know what time it was, but I told Paul, look I can move my toes, that felt so good. Then Paul laid down on his nice soft cot, and we went to sleep, all through the night there was a nurse that came in and checked on me and ran more medicine through my epidural line ~ yes it stays in and the IV does too until you get up and moving around. They were cleaning the room all the time, and it did not smell like a hospital. The only thing I think they should have had was a call button, in case you need some one, but they didn't have one.

The next morning, I could feel my feet and legs, so I asked if I could get up, and they told me to eat. Then Dr. Levi came in and I asked him could they take out my IV now so I can eat and he did. After I ate a little, I got up with a nurse helping me. A friend I met on one of the groups, told me that she must have got up the wrong way because it hurt her more than it did me ~ but it still hurt! Dr. Levi told us that he was proud of me because most of his patients take longer, but even though I was in pain, I got up and walked all over that small hospital. It was only on one level. I got to see two babies. Also when I was walking around a new dad came by me and I asked him could I see his baby, and he told me yes and let me hold it. I cant wait!!!! I got so bored and didn't want to go get back to the bed plus I wanted to walk. I asked Dr. Levi if I could walk outside, he told me yes, but stay at the hospital. I walked out of the hospital and sat in the car.

Then at noon I got to hurting real bad on my right side and went back in the hospital and had the nurse to tell Dr. Levi, but he was in surgery, but he came in a few minutes later and told me they were going to put this wrap around my waist and it should feel much better. They put the wrap on and he came back in there 15 minutes, and saw I was still crying so he gave me a shot in my hip, then I went to sleep, and I was supposed to leave the hospital to go home at 2:00 pm. Paul came in and woke me up and said his he going to let you go home, I asked him what time was it and he told me it was 1:30 pm. After I started walking around I was okay. I was going to get dress, and Paul said not until you take a shower, so Dr Levi came in and asked me how I'm feeling and I told him fine but could he still give me a shot for the trip home, he did, and I'm glad he did!!! I took a shower and told Paul I had to eat some first for I could leave, so I ate a little after my shower, then told him bye and left. I asked Paul did he want me to drive to airport he said if you feel like it, so I drove.

Got lost going to the airport and we were running late, thought we were going to miss our plane. I drove to the airport, parked the rental car and while Paul was turning in the car, I went to check us in and got me a wheel chair, they took me straight through to the plane. Every time I got off the plane there was a wheel chair there for me. Once back in Kentucky I drove almost all the way home, until I got to hurting too bad. I do recommend taking Tylenol 8 hour with you, it's the best.
